TweetGeist: #NYTpaywall, Day Two

In an FAQ posted to the NY Times website, the paper said it was waiting a year to turn on its pay plan because it would take that long to build and integrate new software. But maybe, as many have suggested, Times execs also wanted to trial-balloon their idea -- to get it peer-reviewed by the vast chorus of customers, critics and peers. They certainly got an earful over the past 24 hours. Some highlights:

In Slate, Jack Shafer reviewed the many ways determined readers could likely work around any technical barriers to a site. E&P in Exile has a good roundup of other reactions.

There were, to be sure, voices more sympathetic to the Times move. Bill Mitchell at Poynter argued that the much-criticized one-year delay gives the paper a chance to get things right. Other comments:
